I began working for Summerset in November 2021 as a construction cadet on the Summerset Boulcott site in Lower Hutt. Coming into a large commercial construction project was a real eye opener, and a huge change from studying. I was fortunate enough to have great mentors in Adam Fahey and Grant O’ Toole who showed me the ropes and threw me in the deep end in a positive way.

After 11 months of learning on two apartment blocks, I began looking after the structure of building E, the common amenities HUB of the site. Constantly learning and being guided by the team I was able to see through this building’s construction and handover in 2024.

Along the way I was lucky enough to win the Rising Star Award in 2023 and Graduate my Cadetship.

Following this I moved North to Summerset St Johns in Auckland on secondment to assist with the handover of this village. The exposure on this site ranging from the scale of the build, deadlines and contractor management contributed immeasurably to my career growth to date.

In February 2025 my secondment ended, and I relocated to Blenheim as a Commercial Site Supervisor on Summerset Blenheim’s main building.

With Summerset’s backing I am now studying my master’s in construction management through Auckland University. The team and mentors I have been with on all three Summerset projects to date have been fantastic and I am very fortunate to have had this level of exposure to date.
