About the role
As we continue to grow across the country, we are seeking an experienced and values-driven General Manager – Construction Delivery NZ to lead the strategic and operational delivery of our national construction programme.
Reporting to the Chief Construction Officer NZ, you will lead construction delivery from early design and pre‑construction through to completion across a diverse portfolio of large-scale, multiphased developments. This is a critical senior leadership role with national influence, accountability for performance, and responsibility for building strong systems, teams and partnerships that support sustainable growth.
You will lead a significant team (5–8 direct reports; 90–120 indirect), champion safety, quality and innovation, and play a pivotal role in shaping how Summerset delivers world‑class villages across New Zealand.
This role can be based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for Summerset’s national construction programme, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget and to the highest quality standards
- Lead, develop and align Group Construction Managers and Project Directors to deliver consistent outcomes across all sites
- Embed robust construction systems, processes and methodologies that support scale, efficiency and long-term growth
- Drive excellence in health, safety and wellbeing, quality assurance and risk management
- Challenge and enhance design and construction concepts, ensuring buildability, cost effectiveness and programme certainty
- Provide clear performance expectations, reporting and assurance to the Chief Construction Officer and Construction & Development Steering Groups
- Maintain strong culture and can-do collegial approach aligning to our one team and strive to be the best values
- Build strong relationships with supply chain partners and key stakeholders to support successful delivery
- Champion continuous improvement, sustainability targets and innovation, including labour models, systems and supplier performance
About You
You are a senior construction leader with the credibility and capability to lead complex, multisite programmes at scale. You combine strong commercial and technical expertise with an authentic, inclusive leadership style.
You will also bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive industry experience
- 15+ years’ construction experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing large, complex projects
- A track record of leadership in growth environments
- Experience across multifaceted developments (civil, residential and commercial)
- A strong track record in construction delivery, risk management and stakeholder engagement
- Commercial acumen across costing, estimating, procurement and supply chain management
- Proven ability to build high performing teams and lead through change
- Clear communication, resilience, sound judgement and a solution focused mindset
