About the Role
Summerset is looking for a strategic and experienced Group HSW Manager (Construction). Reporting into the GM of HSW, you will lead the implementation of our Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategy across all construction and care centre refurbishment projects nationwide.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Lead the HSW relationship with the Chief Construction Officer and Construction SLT. Develop and deliver the annual HSW plan for construction.
- Lead, coach, and support a team of HSW Advisors across regional and site-based projects.
- Develop and implement HSW policies aligned with Summerset’s HSWMS and NZ legislation. Ensure robust internal and external audit processes.
- Drive critical risk management initiatives and champion wellbeing programmes including Mates in Construction.
- Design and deliver impactful HSW training for leaders and teams, with a focus on risk identification and mitigation.
- Manage investigations, maintain the Construction Risk Register, use DoneSafe for incident reporting, and oversee hazard, risk, and contractor management.
- Collaborate with internal leaders and external partners to embed best practice and continuous improvement in HSW performance.
About you:
You will be an experienced HSW professional with a strong background in construction. You know how to lead safety initiatives, manage risk, and build a culture of care and accountability on site.
You’ll also bring:
- 10+ years’ experience in a senior HSW role, with a minimum of 5 years of HSW experience within the construction industry
- Relevant Health & Safety qualifications
- Strong knowledge of NZ H&S legislation and audit standards
- Proven leadership and coaching experience
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data
- Desirable: Certified H&S Practitioner (NZISM, IOSH, HASANZ), audit certifications
