Job Description:

At Summerset, everything we do starts with people. From the moment we begin developing a new village to the day our residents proudly call it home, it’s the passion, care, and expertise of our teams that bring each community to life.

We are one team with one purpose — to bring the best of life to our residents, every single day.

As a fast‑growing trans‑Tasman organisation, our footprint is expanding, our ambitions are rising, and our impact is only getting bigger. That means more opportunities to develop, to innovate, and to be part of something truly meaningful. When you join Summerset, you join a place where your work matters, your ideas are valued, and your growth is supported.

Here, you don’t just build a career — you help shape the future of retirement living.

About the Role

Based within our People & Culture team, this fast‑paced and detail‑driven role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and fully compliant payroll services across all Summerset entities in both New Zealand and Australia. With a growing trans‑Tasman footprint, you will play a key role in ensuring consistent payroll excellence, supporting a diverse workforce of salaried, waged, and rostered shift‑based employees.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will support and execute end‑to‑end payroll processes, maintain a high standard of data integrity within our HRIS (TechnologyOne), and provide exceptional service and advice to managers, staff, and key stakeholders.

About You

  • Experienced in delivering full end‑to‑end payroll processing across multiple entities and jurisdictions, ideally within a complex, multi‑site organisation.
  • Confident managing fortnightly payroll cycles, including the processing of salaries, wages, allowances, deductions, and payments with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Skilled in administering payroll for rostered and shift‑based staff, ensuring correct interpretation and application of rosters, hours worked, overtime, penalties, and associated entitlements.
  • Capable of managing payroll lifecycle changes such as new starters, promotions, transfers, terminations, parental leave, and ACC, while ensuring compliance with both NZ and Australian legislative requirements.
  • Experienced in supporting and optimising time and attendance systems, including validating roster and timecard data, managing imports, and assisting managers to resolve discrepancies.
  • Well‑versed in payroll, employment, tax, and holidays/leave legislation across NZ and Australia, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical and compliant way.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to complete audit checks, conduct data validation, and support structured payroll reporting.
  • An excellent communicator with a customer‑centric approach, able to provide timely, accurate payroll support and build strong relationships with stakeholders across both countries.

You’ll also bring:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a full end‑to‑end payroll position.
  • Sound knowledge of NZ payroll legislation (Australian knowledge is an advantage).
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong customer service approach.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to work at pace and meet deadlines.
